I'm Naomi Vance, and Luvorine exists because I got tired of watching "best of" lists rank products nobody had actually used.

My background isn't the usual blogger origin story, and it matters here. I started in retail at nineteen — first on the sales floor, then at the returns and customer-service desk while I was in college. Four years of standing there while people explained, in detail, exactly how their things had broken. At the time it was just a job. In hindsight it was the best education I could have had, and it's where the premise of this entire website comes from.

From there I moved into buying: assistant buyer at twenty-two, then category buyer for housewares and small kitchen appliances at a national chain. That's where I learned the commercial side. What a landed cost looks like. Why a "$79.99 original price" sometimes exists for no reason except to be crossed out. How three different brands can be the same item, from the same factory, with three different logos and three different prices.

My last two years were spent in product quality and returns analysis — reading, at scale, why people send things back. Same lesson as the desk at nineteen, but now with data underneath it:

You don't learn what's good from reviews. You learn it from returns.

Handles crack around month four. Nonstick coatings give up somewhere past month seven. Batteries stop being useful around eighteen months. Zippers go before fabric does. And almost nothing fails in week one — which is, of course, exactly when most reviews get written and most rankings get published.

Twelve years in retail, seven of them buying. I started Luvorine in 2022 as a side project and went full-time in 2024.

Here's how this site works:

Every review tells you how long I've used it, in what conditions, and whether I bought it. I buy nearly everything at full retail. When something arrives free, discounted or on loan, that's labelled at the top — and it gets the same treatment, including a bad review if it earns one.
Every review has a "how it fails" section. Not "is it good," but how does this break, and when. That's the part that decides whether the money was well spent, and almost nobody writes it.
Deals come with price context. I'll show you what the thing has actually cost recently so you can judge the discount yourself. A markdown from an invented list price isn't a discount, and I'll say so. You won't find countdown timers or "hurry, ending soon" language here — if waiting is smarter, I'll tell you to wait.
"Skip it" is a real verdict. Sometimes the honest answer is that the cheap one is fine, that you already own something that does this, or that the whole category is a solution looking for a problem. Those posts are among my most-read, which tells me something.

A note on the pictures, since we're being honest: my kitchen is small, rented, and the cabinets are white because I painted them myself the first summer here. It photographs considerably better than the rest of this operation. The real infrastructure is a spare bedroom with a shelving unit of products mid-test, each labelled with a start date, and a hall closet full of things that failed — every one with a sticky note explaining what went wrong and when. If a product ever photographs better than it performs, I'll be the first to point it out. I'm aware of how that works.

And the honest limits: I'm not a dermatologist, a cosmetic chemist, an electrician or an engineer. My beauty coverage is about wear, texture, packaging, value and longevity — how something behaves over months. It isn't about what it does to your skin medically, and I don't make efficacy claims. If something irritates your skin, that's a doctor's question, not mine. For appliances I check for recognised safety certification and flag listings that don't have it, and I'll always point you to the manufacturer's instructions and current recall listings rather than my memory.

I also don't have kids. So when a children's product gets tested here, it's tested by my sister Robin's two — Sam is nine, June is five — and I say so in the review, along with their ages. I'd rather tell you whose hands were actually on it.

I live in Louisville with my partner Dean, who works in hospital IT and therefore interrogates every "smart" device in this house before it gets plugged in, and Waffle, a lab mix whose shedding season has become an annual vacuum-testing event and whose résumé of destroyed "chew-proof" products is genuinely impressive.

My mother kept receipts in a shoebox and returned anything that didn't hold up. I've just industrialised her approach.
